Vietämme juhannusta taas Portobellon rannalla! Tulkaa mukaan saunomaan, uimaan, grillaamaan tai vain viettämään aikaa hyvässä seurassa.

Aika: Sunnuntai 23.6. klo 16:00-20:00 (Sauna varattu 16:00-18:00)

Paikka: Soul Water Sauna, Brunstane Road North, Edinburgh, EH15 2DN   (Sauna on vähän eri paikassa kuin viime vuonna.)

Tuokaa jotain grillattavaa ja me tarjoamme salaatit, sämpylät, mausteet, sekä virvoitusjuomia; omia juomia voi tuoda myös.

Hinnat:

  • Peruslippu – £7 (jäsenet £5)  
  • Saunalippu* – £15 (jäsenet £13)

*Saunalipun hintaan sisältyy myös grillaus

We will be celebrating Midsummer on Portobello beach again! Come and join us for a sauna, swim, BBQ or just to spend some time in good company.

Time: Sunday 23rd June 16:00-20:00 (Sauna booked 16:00-18:00)

Place:Soul Water Sauna, Brunstane Road North, Edinburgh, EH15 2DN  (Sauna is in a slightly different location to last year.)

Bring something to put on the BBQ and we will provide salads, rolls, condiments and soft drinks. You can bring your own drinks too.

Prices:

  • Standard ticket – £7 (members £5)
  • Sauna ticket* – £15 (members £13)

*Sauna ticket also includes the BBQ

Come and join us on the 1st Wednesday of the month at Victoria Bar, Leith (one of Edinburgh’s two Swedish bars).  We’ll be propping up the bar from 7pm.

A chance for members to meet each other and socialise in a friendly informal setting. 

Why not show off your general knowledge by forming a team for the Victoria’s weekly pub quiz from 8pm?  (Max 6 per team, advance booking requested)


Skotlanninsuomalainen Ceilidh – A Scottish-Finnish Ceilidh

Perjantai 8. joulukuuta, klo 19.00 lähtien, Ukrainalainen Kulttuurikeskus, 14 Royal Terrace, Edinburgh

Friday 8th December, from 7pm, Ukrainian Community Centre, 14 Royal Terrace, Edinburgh

Join us on Friday 8th December to celebrate Finnish Independence Day and Sibelius’ birthday or the Day of Finnish Music with a Scottish-Finnish Ceilidh!

This cross-cultural event will be held at the Ukrainian Community Centre in Edinburgh, and will have live Finnish folk music and Scottish ceilidh dancing, as well as a delicious middle eastern buffet.

Tickets include a welcome drink, buffet dinner, as well as some glögi (mulled wine) later in the evening. There is also a bar at the venue (cash and cards accepted, no under-16s permitted in this area due to licensing restrictions).

Everyone is welcome, whether they are Finns or not, so come along and bring your friends and family! Tickets are limited, so book yours now to avoid disappointment.

When: Friday 8th December. Doors open 7pm, with buffet from 7.30pm and the ceilidh commencing around 8.30pm. Last orders at 11.30pm.

Dress code: Smart casual

Finland’s Folk Music: a Scottish-Finnish Introduction

Suomen kansallissäveltäjä on tuttu kaikille; mutta mitä muuta suomalaiseen musiikkiin kuuluu paitsi Sibelius? Miltä Suomen kansanmusiikki kuulostaa ja miten sitä nykyisin soitetaan? Ottakaa selvää tulemalla St Cecilia’s Halliin, lauantaina 23. syyskuuta klo 15:00–16:30:

Independence Day, Saturday 7th December 2019

Join us for a Finnish-inspired three course meal at the Ukrainian Community Centre. The evening will also include speeches, live music by Dominic Blaikie and Rachel Walker, and of course the traditional raffle (with Finnish prizes) and whisky roll. Come along and bring your friends and family – everyone is welcome, whether they are Finns (or SFS members) or not!


Finnish Christmas Carols and Market, Sunday 1st December 2019

On Sunday the 1st of December we will start by singing some Finnish Christmas carols, after which you’ll have an opportunity to buy Finnish treats from the Christmas Market and enjoy some gingerbread, buns and mulled wine from a cafe set up by the Finnish School. Children can also make some Christmas crafts during the event.


SFS saunoo – Loch Tay sauna, Saturday 27th July 2019

Do you feel like summer isn’t really summer until you’ve had a proper sauna, ideally with a dip in the sea or a lake? Have you spent ages searching for a proper Finnish sauna in Scotland? Can you think of nothing better than getting sweaty with a bunch of friends?

Then we have just the thing for you! After last year’s successful visit to the sauna at Loch Tay, the Scottish-Finnish Society has now reserved the whole sauna for two hours on Saturday 27th July to allow our members and friends to enjoy the sauna, the loch (with a slide!), the bar, the view and some excellent company.

This year we called for all home bakers and paired our AGM with the great Finnish bake off where all competitive bakers could bring their greatest creations for others to taste. The event took place in Edinburgh Ukrainian Club.


Scottish-Finnish Society Independence Day Reception
Monday 4th December 2017

To mark the very special year for Finland, the celebration was organised by the Honorary Consulate in Edinburgh and took place in the beautiful surroundings of The Signet Library in the city centre. This was a champagne reception with entertainment provided by Glasgown Laulu choir and an ensemble from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra playing Sibelius.

Akva and the Scottish-Finnish Society celebrate 100 Years of Finland!
Wednesday 6th December

Nordic bar Akva in Edinburgh’s Fountainbridge area devoted the evening of Independence Day to Finland’s 100th birthday together with the Scottish-Finnish Society – including salmari and lonkero!
