Our favourite family-friendly annual event is returning this year! We’ll be holding our traditional barbecue and games on the grass during the afternoon of Sunday 25th June from 1 to 5pm. Our venue is one that will be familiar to many people from past years, the Edinburgh Academy Playing Fields, located at Kinnear Road in Edinburgh (see below for a map). While we have usually been at the Old Pavilion in previous years, this year we will be in the New Pavilion – but you can expect the same facilities and we will ensure that there are Finnish flags and signposts to help you find your way!
As is tradition, just bring along something to put on the grill and we’ll provide the rest – the barbecue itself, salads, rolls, condiments and so on. Soft drinks will also be provided, but feel free to bring along anything you’d like to drink in addition to that.
This is a paid event and Society members receive a discount – £5 for members, £7 for non-members, and kids under 12 go free. Hope to see you there!
SFS Independence Day Celebration, Saturday 10th December 2016
To celebrate the 99th anniversary of Finnish independence, we were delighted to attend a reception held for the Society by the Rt. Hon. Donald Wilson, Lord Provost of Edinburgh, at the City Chambers. See photos from the reception below.
Midsummer/Juhannus Barbecue, Sunday 26th June 2016
Our annual Midsummer Barbecue took place on Sunday 26th June on an afternoon that started with glorious sunshine and ended with a typically Scottish downpour – but it didn’t dampen our spirits or our grilling endeavours! Below are some pictures from what was a fun afternoon for families and groups of friends. You can also see some on our Facebook page.
