Independence Day Ceilidh, Saturday 8th December 2018

For our annual Independence Day celebration, we’re going for the ultimate Finnish-Scottish fusion with a ceilidh to mark the 101st year of Finland’s independence. All the details are below – come along for a night of dancing with the Ceilidh Caleerie Dance Band, a few drinks (and maybe even some prizes…), and great company. We’d love to see you all there – tickets are limited and won’t be available on the door, so grab yours now!

Vappu picnic in the Meadows organised together with Suomi-koulu, followed by a pub night at the downstairs bar of Moriarty on Lothian Road.


Annual General Meeting and The Great Finnish Bake Off, Saturday 17th March 2018

This year we called for all home bakers and paired our AGM with the great Finnish bake off where all competitive bakers could bring their greatest creations for others to taste. The event took place in Edinburgh Ukrainian Club.


Scottish-Finnish Society Independence Day Reception
Monday 4th December 2017

To mark the very special year for Finland, the celebration was organised by the Honorary Consulate in Edinburgh and took place in the beautiful surroundings of The Signet Library in the city centre. This was a champagne reception with entertainment provided by Glasgown Laulu choir and an ensemble from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra playing Sibelius.

Akva and the Scottish-Finnish Society celebrate 100 Years of Finland!
Wednesday 6th December

Nordic bar Akva in Edinburgh’s Fountainbridge area devoted the evening of Independence Day to Finland’s 100th birthday together with the Scottish-Finnish Society – including salmari and lonkero!

Midsummer/Juhannus, Sunday 25th June 2017

Our family-friendly event with barbecue was held on the familiar premises of Edinburgh Academy Playing Fields, this time in the New Pavilion.


SFS Independence Day Celebration, Saturday 10th December 2016

Midsummer/Juhannus Barbecue, Sunday 26th June 2016

Our annual Midsummer Barbecue took place on Sunday 26th June on an afternoon that started with glorious sunshine and ended with a typically Scottish downpour – but it didn’t dampen our spirits or our grilling endeavours! Annual General Meeting and Pub Quiz, Saturday 19th March 2016

Our Annual General Meeting was held at The Canons’ Gait pub in Edinburgh in March 19th, followed by a Scottish-Finnish pub quiz.
