JUHANNUS / MITTUMAARI / MIDSOMMAR / MIDSUMMER

SUNDAY 22nd JUNE 2025

Sauna is definitely having a moment (Bara Bada Bastu, in case you missed this year’s Eurovision). And our annual Juhannus (Midsummer) party will also be sauna-themed again but at a new location!

The lovely Soul Water Sauna have expanded and opened a new sauna on the waterfront at Granton and, following suggestions from some of our members, we have decided to try it out for this year’s party. The sauna itself is bigger and more accessible than its Portobello counterpart, with toilets available on site too. The sauna is based at The Pitt in Granton, a community space with street food vendors, a bar and coffee kiosk, and children’s play areas. There is also indoor and outdoor seating available.

This year’s ticket price will only include the sauna, so if you just want to come and hang out with us you don’t need to buy a ticket. The sauna is booked from 3-4.15pm and we will decamp to the nearby Granton beach afterwards for a BBQ (charcoal and kettle BBQ will be provided by SFS), or to the indoor area at the Pitt if the weather is bad. You can either bring your own food and drinks or try one of the many food options at the venue!

Juhannus/Midsummer Sauna
Date: Sunday 22nd June
Time: 3-4.15pm for sauna booking, 4.30pm onwards for beach party
Venue: Soul Water Sauna (Granton)
Tickets: £13 (members) / £14.50 (non-members)

To book your sauna seat or for any further information, please email sihteeri@scottish-finnish-society.org.uk. To guarantee the event goes ahead, we will need to know minimum numbers by 14th June, so please book early if you are definitely planning to attend!

Here’s hoping the weather is as kind to us as it was last year at Portobello:

If you can’t make it along for the party, but are still in need of a sauna, why not try one of the many Finnish-style saunas around Scotland. We have now compiled a list of these for our website!
